So often, we step into new tasks or projects with the hope that they’ll carry us further, yet we forget to truly set the stage for our intentions. This moment is about more than just what you see ahead, it’s about where you are right now, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally, and about where you desire to go.
As you begin this journey, I invite you to bring your whole self forward with openness and expectation. Pause and ask God for clarity in your purpose and direction, knowing that today is about unlocking what He has already placed within you. Take a deep breath, clear your mind, and set your intentions for clarity, guidance, and purpose. This is the start of a new chapter in your journey -let’s step into it together.
🌿Module 1: Teaching- Finding Purpose in the Marketplace. Work IN Purpose
This lesson invites you to see work through a different lens, not as something you have to do, but as something you’re called to do. Here, we shift from simply finding a job to discovering how your unique gifts, values, and calling can make an eternal impact in the marketplace.
You’ll learn what it truly means to work with purpose, in purpose, and on purpose, recognizing that every role, title, and season has meaning when aligned with God’s design for your life. Through Scripture, reflection, and real-world examples, you’ll explore how God can use people in every industry to lead, serve, and thrive using the gifts He’s entrusted to them. Whether you’re in healthcare, education, finance, entrepreneurship, or government, this module will help you identify how to show up with excellence, humility, and spiritual awareness wherever you are planted.
You’ll also discover how to bring light, integrity, and impact into your workplace, learning to view every task as an opportunity to honor God, and every season as a step toward your greater purpose.
💡 Key Thought: “Purpose isn’t found by chasing titles, it’s revealed through obedience.”
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
1. Redefine “work” as a form of worship by viewing your daily tasks through the lens of service and purpose (Colossians 3:23).
2. Identify how your God-given gifts, skills, and values can create meaningful impact within various marketplace industries.
3. Recognize the connection between faith and career, understanding how to glorify God through both success and struggle.
4. Develop a mindset of purpose-driven work, focusing on fulfillment, impact, and spiritual growth rather than titles or recognition.
5. Apply biblical principles of leadership and discipleship to serve others authentically, regardless of your position or profession.
This activity is designed to help you uncover how your natural gifts and God-given abilities connect with meaningful opportunities in the marketplace. It’s not just about identifying skills, it’s about recognizing the divine design behind them.
Take this time to complete your guided Skills & Calling Inventory. Reflect on where your talents, passions, and values align, and how they might create impact in your current or future role.
Use the Marketplace Industry Graphic (Top 10 industries: Healthcare, Information Technology, Retail, Manufacturing, Finance, Education, Entrepreneurship, Government, Construction, and Real Estate) as a visual tool to consider where your purpose might thrive. Remember: the goal isn’t to chase the perfect job title, but to discover where your purpose and impact meet.
Milestone #1: Identifying Your Strengths and Interests
For Milestone 1, you’ll put into words at least three core strengths and two God-given interests that feel most authentic to you. Once you’ve reflected, you’ll complete the Milestone 1 Quiz, which will highlight those strengths and interests and help you see them clearly, in black and white.
Think of this as your first anchor point, a defining moment where you begin to connect who you are with the purpose God is calling you toward. This milestone will serve as the foundation for every next step in aligning your career with His plan.
In this section, you’ll step into a real-life scenario that challenges how you define success, integrity, and purpose. Imagine being offered a promotion that looks perfect on paper, more money, more recognition, maybe even the title you’ve dreamed of, yet deep down, something doesn’t sit right. This isn’t about finding the “right” answer; it’s about honestly reflecting on how you might respond when your career path and your convictions collide. Take this as an opportunity to slow down, weigh the cost, and ask yourself: Am I chasing man’s applause, or God’s approval? Am I more concerned with the earthly title, or the eternal testimony? This thought exercise will help you see where your values stand, and how you can invite God into your decision-making in real time.
🌿Reflection: Write Your Career Purpose Statement (Milestone 2)
This is the moment where everything you’ve explored so far begins to take shape. You’ve reflected on your strengths, your God-given interests, and the values that guide your decisions, now it’s time to bring it all together into a statement of purpose for your career. Think of this as more than just words on a page; it’s a declaration of who you are, what you stand for, and how you want your work to serve God and others. As you begin to craft your Career Purpose Statement, be honest with yourself. Don’t write what sounds good, write what feels true. Ask: What has God uniquely placed in me that the world needs? How do I want to show up every day in my work, both now and in the future? Use the guided template to help you include your mission, values, strengths, and desired impact. This statement will become a compass for you, something to return to when opportunities arise, decisions get tough, or you simply need to realign with your “why.”
As we come to a close, take a deep breath and reflect on all that you’ve discovered throughout this course.
You’ve explored your strengths, your calling, and the values that define who you are, not just as a professional, but as a servant of God in the marketplace.
Take time to revisit your journal and notes. Notice how your understanding of career may have shifted, from chasing positions to pursuing purpose; from striving for recognition to walking in divine alignment.
Make a quiet promise to yourself that you will continue to renew your mind in how you see your work, your future, and your purpose.
Close this moment with prayer, asking for clarity, confidence, and God’s guidance as you move forward.
Remember: a no is still sacred when it protects your principles, and a yes holds power when it aligns with God’s purpose, truth, humility, and work through worship.
