Sometimes we keep ourselves tucked in the bubble of familiarity- the spaces where we’re known, supported, and celebrated. It feels safe. It feels manageable. But here’s the truth: your purpose was never meant to be boxed in by comfort. What if you’ve been called to shift lanes – out of the slow lane of self-protection and into the fast lane of purpose and visibility?
You see, playing it safe may get you noticed by the same circle you’ve always had – but what about the ones still searching for you? The ones you haven’t met yet? The ones God assigned to your voice, your story, your obedience?
The Hat That Always Fits 🎩
I often think about the times I showed up for someone – not in a formal position, but in a divine moment where they needed encouragement, direction, or just a safe space. No title required. Just presence.
We all wear different hats – professional, parent, leader, friend – but there’s one hat that fits in every room, in every role: the one that allows us to speak life. It’s the hat of service. Of purpose. Of faith. And you don’t need permission to wear it.
Throughout my 9 to 5, I’ve coached and mentored people behind the scenes. I didn’t call it coaching or label it ministry. I just showed up in the way I knew how – by being who I am. I used to hesitate to share about this side of me, unsure if it would “conflict” with my work responsibilities. After all, we’re told to keep “faith and politics” out of the workplace.
But here’s what I’ve learned: faith doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. It doesn’t need a mic or a platform to be effective. Walking in biblical principles should be a natural extension of who you are – not something to suppress until Sunday. You don’t need to perform it. You just need to live it.
Come Out of Hiding 🔦
The calling on your life is bigger than the bubble you’re trying to stay small in. God isn’t limited to time or space – so neither is your influence. Whether it’s in your career, your community, your church, or even in chance encounters with strangers… you are a vessel. You are being used to advance the Kingdom in subtle, powerful, everyday ways.
So no, stepping into your calling doesn’t always mean quitting your job and starting a business (although it might). It might just mean walking more boldly into who you are while showing up at your 9 to 5. It means opening your eyes to the opportunities around you to be light – to speak life, to lead with empathy, to serve with purpose.
There’s something special about that coworker who speaks life into you. That stranger in the parking lot who encourages you. That friend who reminds you of your potential. But what if you are that person for more people? What if it’s time to stop waiting to be found – and start showing up?
“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities. -Isaish 54: 2-3
It’s time to take the limits off. Not for applause 👏, but for the cause. Expand your territory… because someone is waiting for you to show up.
Additional questions to ask yourself… 🤔
- Where have I been playing small, and what bold step can I take this week to show up with more purpose? 💡
- Am I hiding behind comfort, or am I trusting God enough to expand into the places He’s called me to reach? 🙏
- How can I create space to pour into others, not just where I’m supported – but where I’m needed? 🤝
